On the Chase

I'm BACK. After a short Thursday post, I went to the doctor and found out that I had overuse tendonitis in my right wrist. Lame. So I was on heavy wrist-rest this weekend which included no blogging and minimal tweeting. But I'm feeling better and I really want to participate in this new-fangled thing crafted by Melissa at Live, Love, & Run.

I just talked about goal setting in my Motor Behavior class this morning, so I am pumped to set me some goals. Most people who talk goals talk about setting Specific Measurable Attainable Realistic Time-based goals. But in class today, I saw something that really stuck with me. Challenging Attainable Realistic Specific. It's always good to remind yourself that goals are here for a reason: to push yourself.

Goal #1: Stick to my training schedule for the week. Today starts the first day of half marathon training and I am DEDICATING myself to it this time. I want it. I want it badly. And so I will train my butt off.

I'm going to a Phillies game tonight, as you can see! Sunday asks for five miles.

There isn't any cross training on the schedule. That's a topic for another day. So I'm going to see how the speed work goes. If I have to cut back to not injure myself, those will be the first days to go. After that, I'd cut the Saturday short runs and move the long runs to Saturday. I'm challenging myself with this plan, but I refuse to challenge myself to the point of injury!

Also, stretching/yoga/foam rolling/whatever gets me limber will happen EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. EVERYDAY.

Goal #2: Don't do anything to ruin the wrist! As you can see, today is a strength day. I need to modify, modify, modify. Sure, I can run without my wrist. But can I function in every day life without my wrist? Don't I sound like a brat. Yes, Amanda. You can if you need to.

I'm just sick of trying to wipe my butt with my left hand. Just saying.

What are your goals for the week? Link up if you have a post about it here!

Fling, Flang, Flung

Spring Fling was yesterday! Woo! You'll be happy to know that I attended all of my classes and THEN proceeded to Fling. :)

Inviting people to our show. And flinging. :)

After flinging, I had three hours of dance rehearsal. So I'm not going to lie, I counted our warm-up/stretch session as my completion of the Stretch for Seven challenge yesterday. This might just be a mental thing, but I feel so much better since this challenge started. Sure, I still have my rough moments of the day, but I really feel like I'm able to bounce back quickly and with more gusto.

Is that lame? Am I actually...relaxing? Who knew! Stretching everyday is ACTUALLY effective! All of those things we read saying so are NOT lying to us. :)

On my plate for today is a three mile run and my Tone It Up challenge for the day. I actually didn't do my HIIT routine yesterday because I was flung I am an awful human being so I'm going to use my three miles as double duty. I'm nervous because I'm going to try the treadmill again so I don't have to watch my phone constantly for how long I've been running.

I need help with HIIT, how do you time it when you're running?

Point is, the treadmill and I don't really get along very well. So three miles might be very, very interesting to see.

Pinterest suggested this for treadmill. I can dig.

And then of course, I have my stretching for the day! I haven't decided yet but I might try to find a yoga video or a stretching video. Otherwise I'm just going to do the same old "put on music and stretch like you mean it." Which is good, but I want to be adventurous! So if anybody has any good ideas, please let me know!

Have a wonderful, wonderful Thursday! :)

Leap Day!

Happy Leap Year! Happy Leap Day! I urge you to leap as many times as you can today! I have certainly been leaping into massive puddles with my rainboots. I'm not ashamed.

How she keeps her umbrella under control is beyond me.

I'm taking an hour to sit and chill after my test today because I woke up this morning feeling sort of awful. That also means that I did not go to yoga this morning because I didn't want to throw up on the subway or anything like that. But I think it might have to do with dinner last night. Paul and I made a lightened up version of Alfredo from Running to the Kitchen because we both love Alfredo but we always feel a tiiiiiny bit guilty about our love.

The verdict? It was a bit different but CRAZY delicious. We both loved it and he is so darn picky with his Alfredo sauce. SUCCESS!! The delicious cheese might have upset my stomach, but I'm ignoring that.

Speaking of food...

So very, very red.

That's what my face resembled last evening after my run. IT WAS ONLY TWO MILES! I swear by the end of the Broad Street Run I'm going to upgrade to lobster status.

I was going to run alongside the river but it got too dark and my built-in running partner was busy studying. So I just hopped downstairs and got on the treadmill. I am rediscovering my hate for the treadmill. I just psych myself out so badly I go crazy. I also had to take two mini-walk breaks at the tail end of the second mile. So my goal by the end of this week is to bust that habit.

Today I'm catching up on some strength training, hopefully going to a spinning class, and going to dance later tonight. Hence the reason I'm vegging right now. :)

Happy Leap Day!!

How are you using your extra 24 hours this year?
As always, pictures from Pinterest. :)
